Canine Companionship

Allow me to introduce you to another neighborhood dog. (You can meet the first one here.) This is Bucket Dog:

We call him Bucket Dog because carrying around empty plastic buckets seems to be his favorite thing to do (after whining and howling). Bucket Dog trots around the yard collecting his buckets, and then carries them to the top of the back stairs and sits with them for a while.

 *sigh*

Then at random times of the day and night, a bucket falls down the stairs. THUNKA THUNKA THUNKA THUNKA! We can hear this very clearly, as we’ve discovered that our house has the measliest insulation known to mankind. (Don’t even get me started on all the neighbor kids we can hear crashing into our garage door on their wheeled devices. THUD rattlerattlerattle . . . THUD rattlerattlerattle.)

I feel bad for Bucket Dog. If I were him I’d be bored to tears because he doesn’t seem to have anything else to do besides carry around buckets all day (and whine and howl). Does he have issues? Does he need a doggie shrink? Do his owners need to pay attention to him? Does he need a chew toy? I don’t know because I’ve never had a dog. But on rereading this post, I think I should start working on a children’s book. Coming soon to a bookstore near you: Sounds of the Neighborhood.

  2. I look forward to your book.
Poor Bucket Dog. He just needs a little more attention. Or more buckets.

  3. Bucket dog needs a walk, methinks. Maybe he also needs a bucket intervention.
