Buen Dia de Gracias

A little while ago, this came out of our oven:

I had nothing to do with it. In fact, just a few minutes later, I shamed the very same appliance by making a pot of box mac and cheese.

But back to the pastry. It is a pastafrola de dulce de membrillo. And I—with all of my olive-skinned ancestry—had no clue what that was until my Anglo Husband enlightened me recently. First I thought it had something to do with membranes. This did not sound appetizing. But, to my relief, it turns out that membrillo is quince. Well that certainly cleared things up. Um, yeah, I didn’t know what that was either. Quince is a fruit, and this pastafrola is traditional fare in Argentina, where Husband lived while on a church mission. He decided to make it to share with my family tomorrow. After he translated a recipe from Spanish, a very yummy fragrance filled our kitchen.

You know I’m not very brave when it comes to trying new foods, but I always look forward to trying new desserts. I hope you have an equally enjoyable time tomorrow. You and all your family membranes.
