Can You Ear Me?

Today at work I was typing the word ears. Typing too quickly, I spelled out hears instead. I sat there for more than a few moments, thinking I might have come across the etymology of those things that are attached to the sides of my head. Maybe they were originally called hears, I thought. Wouldn't that make sense? And then the "h" became silent, as it often does, and they ultimately came to be called ears. And maybe eventually we'll say, "I ear you" instead of "I hear you." And then I remembered that I actually had work to do and more words to type.

Just another one of my daily random thoughts. Betcha you're going to think of those things as "hears" now.

I actually laughed out loud on this one. Hilarious idea. I think you're onto something.
